Verdugo Hills Golf Course - This course was built in 1959 and has about 1805 yards of golf play. It is a 3 par course with some very technical holes. You are hitting short, up and down hills. A great course for getting "iron" time in. The staff is friendly and the fees are cheap, what more can you ask for? This course has 18 holes, a putting green, a driving range and a bar.

Verdugo Hills Golf Course - Club House
This club house was built back in 1959 and features everything from rework of your golf clubs to golf ball and glove sales. They have it all including golf bags, tees and wheels.

Looking for lessons? Verdugo Hills Golf Course offers lessons which are billed on the half hour but will help you to improve your overall game. Lessons are offered for kids through adult and will focus on what you need them to.

Verdugo Hills Golf Course - Bar
The Verdugo Hills Golf Course Bar is not hip and current, but an average bar. I think this adds to the appeal of the golf course as it keeps focus on one thing. Golf! It's not about picking up or meeting your next wife or girlfriend, its about golf. This bar features a friendly staff who get's to know you. They do have TVs to watch games and food to feed an empty stomach, but most of all its about beer!!! Grab a beer for your round or a beer in between the front and back 9. Whatever your reason for grabbing a beer, the Verdugo Hills Golf Course Bar will supply you with it.

Verdugo Hills Golf Course - Putting Green
This smooth yet challenging putting green is free to putt on and will help you to improve your short game. You can chip on and take long shots to the hole. Manicured to perfection, this is probably the best green on the course. It is also the green that the coaches use to train on. Hmmm, go figure. Take advantage of this green because if you master it, you will also master your short game. The best part is that this green is open until closing (9:30pm during summer and 8:30 during winter) so it is easy to practice on after work. Yes, it is lighted.

Verdugo Hills Golf Course - Driving Range
This driving range features guards on each side to prevent you from hitting the person next to you on a sliced shot. It has a flag in the middle to practice your short game and plenty of yards to measure your long game. A bucket of balls is cheap (averaging 80 balls for less then $10). Part of the driving range is covered, so good for those rainy months. A $1 holding fee is required for the rubber tee's (I guess theft of these rubber tees was rampant) but you get that back when your done and turn the rubber tee in.

Verdugo Hills Golf Course (Hole By Hole) - Below I will go hole by hole on the 3 par course so you know what to expect and don't look like an "idiot" your first time playing here. "Don't worry though, you will hear "FORE" all over the place because of how narrow the fairways are."

HOLE #1 - Verdugo Hills Golf Course (70 Yards)
Recommended Club: Tee Off With An Iron - PW or 9 Iron depending on your skill level.

This hole has a right that will put you into the bushes or driving range. It has a left that will put you n a down hill slope into the 3rd tee fairway and a straight that is the sweet spot. It looks easy but that is deceiving, easy it is not. Understand the distance and you will understand and hit the hole. Remember here it is best to short the hole (Unless you feel you can hit the green) instead of overdriving the hole.

HOLE #2 - Verdugo Hills Golf Course (110 Yards)
Recommended Club: Tee Off With An Iron - PW or 9 Iron depending on your skill level.

You may have to dodge a few balls from the driving range, but for the most part this hole is forgiving. If you hit right, your ball may be lost amongst many driving range balls and brush. If you hit left, well if you hit far enough you will hit the side of the hill and roll on to the green, but if you don't hit far enough you are on the 3rd tee fairway. Once again straight and short is best with this hole.

HOLE #3 - Verdugo Hills Golf Course (95 Yards)
Recommended Club: Tee Off With An Iron - SW or PW depending on your skill level.

If you hit too hard then you are over the back and down the hill chipping from close to the 1st tee. It is better to be short on this hole or hit the green. If you pitch to the left you are on the 2nd tee fairway. Go right and you are into the mountain. Be conservative on this hole and you will do great. Do not over swing. It is a downhill slope that makes you think the hole is farther away then it really is..

HOLE #4 - Verdugo Hills Golf Course (75 Yards)
Recommended Club: Tee Off With An Iron - SW or PW depending on your skill level.

This is a tricky hole. There is a tree that you will hit into if you it to high. If you hit too far left, guess what you are on the green of the 1st tee. Left puts you into some "beautiful roses". Don't go there. Hit too hard and you are chipping from the club house. A mean downhill run on the back. This is another hole where it is better to be short then long. P.S. The green here is fast, so play accordingly.

HOLE #5 - Verdugo Hills Golf Course (100 Yards)
Recommended Club: Tee Off With An Iron - PW, 9 or 8 Iron depending on your skill level.

This hole is uphill and narrow. Hit to far right and you are in the hills. Hit left and you are down a steep slope into the 9th hole fairway. Using an 8 iron can put you over the back into the 9th hole tee, so be conservative with this club. This hole makes you think the fag is farther then you think, or closer then you think. With trees on both sides it is very easy to get caught up in them, so close your eyes and hit straight.

HOLE #6 - Verdugo Hills Golf Course (115 Yards)
Recommended Club: Tee Off With An Iron - 9 or 8 Iron depending on your skill level.

This is a difficult hole. As you can see from the picture, it is very narrow. I am sure the mountain on the right has clamed many balls. Go left and you will have to yell "Fore" for those teeing off the 8th hole. If you are too short you are in a unique sand trap. So best bet here is semi-short straight. Although with my 8 iron I am able to land the green with a straight shot. This obviously is ideal.

HOLE #7 - Verdugo Hills Golf Course (75 Yards)
Recommended Club: Tee Off With An Iron - SW or PW depending on your skill level.

This hole is easy to screw up on. It looks easy because it is short but if you go left you are down a steep hill onto the back 9 or too far right then you are on the mountain. This is a hole you either hit the green or are short. Keep in mind the green is sloped towards the tee so if you hit it you may roll back down onto the fairway or if you hit towards the back of the green you are putting downhill.

HOLE #8 - Verdugo Hills Golf Course (115 Yards)
Recommended Club: Tee Off With An Iron - PW or 9 Iron depending on your skill level.

This is a steep downhill hole. There is a drainage ditch hazard. If you hit this surely you will have a very ugly bounce leading you away from the green. Nail the green and you have a slope downhill towards the tee. With this hole it is best to hit the green below the flag where you have more control in putting uphill as opposed to hitting behind it and putting downhill. Hit too hard and you are over the back down a huge hill.

HOLE #9 - Verdugo Hills Golf Course (110 Yards)
Recommended Club: Tee Off With An Iron - SW or PW depending on your skill level.

This is a downhill hole. Don't let that fool you. Left and you are in the trees sending you straight down, right and you are into some beautiful rose bushes. Hit straight and best if you hit short and ride mother nature down onto the green. There are multiple levels to this downhill slope so don't count on mother nature too hard. Once on the green you will notice a slope right, so hitting left and low to the green is ideal.

HOLE #10 - Verdugo Hills Golf Course (140 Yards)
Recommended Club: Tee Off With An Iron - 7 Iron or 6 Iron depending on your skill level.

This hole is long and straight. If you hit long and slight left you will role onto the green. If you hit right you are screwed by a drainage hazard that will most likely give you a bad bounce onto the 18th fairway. The green is pretty level so if you land it, regardless of where you land it you should be OK. Going short on this hole leaves you in an OK. position because as in most holes you are a chip and a putt away from par.

HOLE #11 - Verdugo Hills Golf Course (90 Yards)
Recommended Club: Tee Off With An Iron - 9 or 8 Iron depending on your skill level.

Hitting up hill, this hole seems farther then it is. Hit too far over the green and you are in rattle snake country with a steep roll down the ill into the sewers. Hit too short and you will roll back down to the tee. This hole is probably the hardest on the course and forces you to make a nice and easy tee off onto the green. Once there don't putt too hard or you are back where you started from.

HOLE #12 - Verdugo Hills Golf Course (105 Yards)
Recommended Club: Tee Off With An Iron - PW or 9 Iron depending on your skill level.

This hole as well as the next 3 are straight forward. Don't get to comfortable though because if you slice right you go downhill fast onto the 11th fairway. Slice too far right and you are yelling "Fore" to the players on the 13th tee. The green is sloped so unless you hit a hole in one, it is best to hit under the flag so you are putting up, as opposed to down in order to land the hole below par.

HOLE #13 - Verdugo Hills Golf Course (100 Yards)
Recommended Club: Tee Off With An Iron - SW or PW depending on your skill level.

A straight forward hole. hit straight or your done. Right, you ride the mountain down to the green, but this is a slight right. Hard right and your on the 14th fairway. Hit left and you are in the trees with a hard down. Too far right and you will roll down into the 12th fairway.. This is a hole you either hit onto the green or you hit short. Once on the green you are dealing with slope towards the tee, so yes short is better.

HOLE #14 - Verdugo Hills Golf Course (100 Yards)
Recommended Club: Tee Off With An Iron - SW or PW depending on your skill level.

If you don't hit straight on this hole, make sure you hit left. Slightly. You will ride mother nature down onto the green. Too far left and you are on the 15th fairway and possibly killing the people teeing off of the 15th tee. Too far right and you are down the hill onto the 13th fairway. Straight is best onto this green which is for the most part flat. The green still has some angles which will lend a challenge.

HOLE #15 - Verdugo Hills Golf Course (100 Yards)
Recommended Club: Tee Off With An Iron - SW or PW depending on your skill level.

Most people on this hole hit it long. Long takes you into rattle snake country. Right, slightly rolls you down the hill onto the green. Hard and your yelling "Fore" to those on the 16th hole. If you hit/slice right, well you are back on the 14th fairway. So best bet, as with any hole, is to hit straight. Once on the green you will notice a slight dip forward towards the tee, so make sure to putt softly.

HOLE #16 - Verdugo Hills Golf Course (75 Yards)
Recommended Club: Tee Off With An Iron - SW or PW depending on your skill level.

I have rode mother nature on this hole and guess that many others have too. Hitting left, slightly will roll you down to the green. Keep in mind that hitting right will roll you down to the fairway of the 15th tee. The green here is also sloped. Sloped towards the tee, this green is best played short. Unless you are a pro at rolling your ball downhill towards the tee from the back. It is safest to play this hole short.

HOLE #17 - Verdugo Hills Golf Course (115 Yards)
Recommended Club: Tee Off With An Iron - PW or 9 Iron depending on your skill level.

Another steep downhill hole. You can hit short. Guess what will happen? The ball will roll! This is a hole you can play conservatively and will still end up good. Just make sure you hit straight. If you hit too hard you are over the back into who knows land. Meaning your ball is gone. Talk about slope, on the green it is definitely better to hip uphill to the hole then downhill. Make sure to hit your ball ripe!

HOLE #18 - Verdugo Hills Golf Course (85 Yards)
Recommended Club: Tee Off With An Iron - PW or 9 Iron depending on your skill level.

The last hole looks easy, but I guarantee that it is not. If you hit right your ball will fall straight down after it hits the trees. If you hit too far right then you are yelling "Fore" to those on the 9th tee. So again hit straight. The green is moderately sloped, but the area around the green are hard to hit from. Meaning very puffed for grass and divided with dirt and rocks. Go figure...

Verdugo Hills Golf Course "WARNINGS" - Beware of the warning signs. Knowing that we all want to retrieve our balls when we slice etc., it is very important to note the warning signs posted at Verdugo Hills Golf Course. Keeping an eye out for these signs will save you from potential grief. So be aware!

Verdugo Hills Golf Course - Poison Oak Warning
This course is positioned on a mountain side. This makes the course challenging, but also provides the same risk you would run across as a mountain climber. This includes exposure to poison oak. The greens and fairways are the only thing manicured on this golf course. The wild is left wild, which by the way adds to the appeal of the overall course. Make sure you are aware of the morning signs. If you happen to hit your ball into an area where a warning sign is present, chalk it up to a mulligan or lost ball penalty. Believe me you will save yourself from longer term grief then that of a penalty.

Verdugo Hills Golf Course - Rattle Snake Warning
I will explain this even though I know that an explanation is not necessary. Avoid rattle snakes. If you hear the rattle then expect that they are disturbed and ready to lash out and bite. Chalk this up to a lost ball. It is not worth the possible misery you could receive to salvage this ball. Call it an extra stroke, and explain it as "I did not want to die". Be aware of the signs posted warning of rattle snakes, and always keep an ear open to that distinctive rattle. Just to let you know that this warning is legit, I have seen these snakes on my own, and yes counted that ball as an extra stroke.
